Whew! What a whirlwind! Though at first I found the annotations laborious and felt they interrupted the story flow for me, most of them were humorous and they did add some extra context to the world. Still not really my cup of tea. I find they don't add enough value to be worth breaking the immersion for the reader.
But this BOOK, guys. So good. I loved his casual writing style and the way he painted this brutal world of his. Both the protagonist Mia and the secret association of assassins manage to come off convincingly merciless without being edgy. The characters are unique and relatable. I particularly enjoyed Solis, myself. What's cooler than a blind weapons master? Even if he is kind of a dick. All-in-all, a great read start to finish. Fast-paced, action-packed, and full of unexpected twists.
